Why use a cleaning cartridge?

· A cleaning cartridge is used to flush out the print head before the installation of a new cartridge or to clean a print head if a problem occurs.

· The main need for print head cleaning stems from the many different types of inks that different Manufacturers use.

· Epson use an encapsulated pigment ink which are covered in a resin, which they claim improves absorption on various different paper surfaces. However, when this type of ink is left in the ink nozzle it can cause problems when mixed with other types (Pigmented Dye, Pigment + Dye, & Dye inks).

· This mixing of different types of inks is what generally causes poor ink quality when trying a new compatible cartridge for the first time.

· Prolonged use of a blocked or dirty print head will damage the print head beyond repair.

· Regular cleaning will also improve continued print quality.

· When opened and used once, it is not expired, included is a re-sealable bag and channel plugs that can be used to keep your cleaning cartridge safe and re-usable for a further 6 months after initial use.

How does it work?

The cleaning cartridge uses an alcohol-based solution that dissolves any ink blockages. These ink blockages are generally formed around air bubbles in the print head and this can effectively seal the head. The alcohol solution dissolves the ink shell around the bubble and then forces the air bubble out of the head, allowing the liquid to flow freely.

The cleaning solution contains traces of colouring in them to mask the thinning effect noticed after a cleaning cartridge has been used.

Q & A

1. When do I need this cartridge?

~ When print quality declines, or broken lines are found on the nozzles' check pattern, this cartridge will help to restore printing quality.

2. ~ If your ink cartridge is depleted and no replacement cartridge is available, install the cleaning cartridge to prevent the print head from drying out and clogging.

3. ~ If you have not used the printer for a prolonged period of time, use the cleaning cartridge to remove any residual ink. Cleaning cartridges may be used prior to each ink cartridge installation in order to maintain print head condition.

4. How to use this cartridge?

~ Install the appropriate cleaning cartridge according to the same procedures as replacing a new compatible ink cartridge.

~ Execute the print head cleaning program, then run 'print nozzles' check pattern' to ensure the print head is cleaned. Normal 'nozzles' check pattern' contain no broken lines. However, if lines appear, repeat the cleaning process and test procedures until prints appear as your test pattern advises.

~ Remove the cleaning cartridge from the printer. Seal the air channels and ink outlets with the plugs provided, place the cleaning cartridge in resealable bag included to maintain the cartridge for future use.

5. Can I reinstall the old printing cartridge after cleaning?

~ It is not recommended that you use the old ink cartridge again as this will upset the internal ink counter of printer. (i.e. the printer may not read the ink levels correctly) a new cartridge should be inserted.

6. Can I keep the cleaning cartridge for future use?

~ Yes, as long as you keep the channels sealed with the plugs provided and the cleaning cartridge in the resealable bag whilst not in use.

7. How many times can I use for this cartridge?

~ It depends on the condition of the print head. Normally if it takes two "cleanings" to resume print quality, the cartridge can be used up to ten times. However, this may vary for different printer models.

8. Does the solvent cause any damage to the print head?

~ No. Experiments have been conducted to prove that the solvent is not corrosive to print head, and therefore causes no damage.
